sLuMdOg MiLlIoNaIrE

Every Human being worth their name strives for two things their entire lives: Love and attention. Primal instincts made us strive for food, water, air and shelter; with humans no longer in that stage of evolution, their needs have changed and so have their desires.

Slumdog Millionaire is just one example that exemplifies the above. We just love every Indian connection. The movie wasn’t even shot in Dharavi(It was shot in the slums of Juhu and Versova) and yet for us the slums will always be the same:the name itself is an oxymoron that reflects our true selves. We love to watch the slums, run a project there but never live there ‘coz we all want to be millionaires in cash or kind :P

The movie did make the author of the book a millionaire. No one knew that guy(I still can’t remember his name, but he was some Indian ambassador). The book was called Q & A, now its called Slumdog Millionaire with Dev Patel and Freida Pinto on its cover. I bet JK Rowling and Dan Brown would be jealous of this guy. The movie had a decent storyline, excellent background music and performances by those kids and of course our technical expertise just needed its time to be reflected at the Oscars.Would they offer sound engineering as an elective next year? We anyways have creative multimedia and half of BITSians have very good acoustics and the also have very good acoustics on their Ipods, laptops and Woofers( Doesn’t that rhyme with Dog?).

All in all a good evening at the Oscars, great for Bollywood and of course Dan Boyle, unlikely it would be great for the slum dwellers but of course something to cherish is better than nothing at all. For BITSians? Well we can self-congratulate ourselves for promoting 2100 pirated viewings.

Random musings across T1

Apart from using blogger for scribling out randomized info about myself, I just thought I would give some space and time for some interesting things that I came across during Test1.

For those of you who use firefox(or chrome) there's this firefox extension called Mashlogic available at Mashlogic Download that really adds a lot of functionality to the web page you are viewing.Btw a mashup in web terminology is a tool that integrates existing services pertaining to a specific domain into one tool.I have been using lots of extensions and add-ons including the one on which I'm blogging right now(Scribefire & coolIRIS)but this is the best I have come across till date. Also for a reason that could be any or all of the below:
1)Network restrictions in BITS Pilani Goa Campus
2)Installing Google Gears (I'm not sure if this comparison is valid but I would rate the caching ability of Gears way above the Squid proxy used in our campus)
3)Exam time blues
..I started getting download speeds almost 10X times the normal downloads on this network without using any non-browser based software.

Fist of Rice(FOR) is a non-profit organization started by a group of students most of which are BITSians from our campus with the purpose of solving the grassroot level food deficiency problem, based on the concept that a fist of rice donated by an individual summed into hundreds of donors in thousands of locations would generate millions of rice bags helping to solve the food problem to a considerable extent.Check out FOR. Another site to check out would be Bhook and Poverty.

Valentine's and the color codes also came and went.Unfortunately for St.Valentine, there wasn't much to do with his original idea of Valentine. However Love is not something that is to be celebrated on one day. It's much much more than that 'coz it involves friendship, childrens', teachers',independence, and every other day of the year 'coz unless you work for it, you ain't understand it and till you understand it you won't get it.That's something that gphone.exe has been teaching our computers of late in BITS.The virus has inflicted almost all the CC comps and half the student PC's and lappies. The best way I found to remove it was to use Glary's utilities.Available in our software repository or free download, it's very much like a task manager which would have been otherwise disabled by the virus.

that's all folks :)

Philosophy: We don't realize the importance of something or someone in our lives till we have lost it.

Science: Impulse=Force*time

I never imagined that the above two were fundamentally correlated until the happenings of today.A force of a few Newtons applied on a button for a minuscule instant of time made me relate the rest of my time to the above philosophy so much so that nothing in my past had prepared me for it.I can't speak much about it but I'm thankful and grateful to the stars and planets and humans and animals and plants who made this happen 'coz I just would never have understood the importance in my life of that element if it hadn't happened.thanx :)

WAVES'08(Every festival has given me a lot, including this one) had marked the culmination of a habit and hobby that inspired, transpired and conspired the last of QUARK 2009.It was an awesome feeling being there once again. For this I would like to thank the whole of BITS and my team for working under these conditions and bearing the brunt of many a people!

French still connects everything I do.
-My first crush was there,my first night out was there, the place I love is also there and today also it played the sweet role in my life...thnx :)
I just love this french connection.
